More than four times as many blueberries were sold last month compared with the same time last year, an industry body has said.
Almost 1,200 tonnes of blueberries were sold, compared with under 300 tonnes in 2008, and sales of blackberries, strawberries and raspberries were also up, by 33%, 17% and 3% respectively.
British Summer Fruits, which represents growers, said a total of 58,400 tonnes of soft fruit were sold in the summer and put the success down to the settled weather creating improved growing conditions.
