Dame Julie Andrews is to return to the London stage for the first time in 30 years.

The 74-year-old star will make her comeback in a "nostalgic trip" through some of her stage and screen performances.

Dame Julie's famous voice was damaged 12 years ago after surgery to remove non-cancerous nodules on her vocal cords.

The Sound Of Music and Mary Poppins star sued the New York surgeons and won £600,000 in an out-of-court settlement.

She said afterwards: "Singing has been a cherished gift, and my inability to sing has been a devastating blow."

She had been left with "a wonderful, deep, bass voice of about five notes and that's about it", the British-born star said.

An Evening With Julie Andrews will take place at the 02 and feature a night of music from the star's "greatest stage and screen performances".

Dame Julie will sing hits from The Sound Of Music, The King And I, South Pacific and Carousel with an ensemble of West End and Broadway stars and accompaniment from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Dame Julie will also narrate the children's book Simeon's Gift, which she wrote with her daughter, at the event on May 8 next year.

The Oscar-winner said: "To perform once again in my homeland on the London stage will be a wonderful moment - it is where it all began for me, and I am so excited to be able to share a brand new work with audiences."
